candle care

Every candle hand poured by lugna [lu-na] deserves the proper care to allow it to burn beautifully. 

your first burn

The first burn is the most important. Your candle forms a 'wax/burn memory', so when you receive your candle and go to burn it for the first time it's important to allow the wax to form a full melt pool, which means the wax melts to the edges of the glass, or near enough. This is roughly one hour per inch of diameter, so basically around 2-3 hours will do it. A great excuse to enjoy your lugna [lu-na] candle for a long time! Grab a book, curl up on the sofa and relax...

after burning your candle

When you blow out your candle and the wax cools, you may notice it looks a bit different to your normal paraffin candle. Soy wax, a natural wax, creates a bumpy surface when cooled, this does not affect your candle at all. It just shows you have a fully natural, biodegradable and a renewably sourced candle. 

before each new burn

At lugna [lu-na] we use environmentally friendly, cotton wicks which are zinc free and free from toxins. Our eco friendly wicks are not self trimming, so when you go to re-light your lugna [lu-na] candle again to enjoy, you must trim your wick. Leave the wick about 0.5cm. By trimming your wick it removes any carbon build up and allows you to have a clean burn. 

burning your candle

We recommend burning your candle for no longer than 4 hours. Oxygen levels can reduce if burnt for longer than 3-4 hours, this can cause 'soot' to be created and may mark your glass. We want your candle to burn beautifully, so if you find you create soot whilst burning, we suggest reducing your burn time. Keep you candle away from draft and on a flat non flammable surface. Never leave your candle unattended.
